Winslow Township
History
The Township of Winslow was created by an act of the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey on March 8, 1845. The first town meeting was held at the inn of Josiah Albertson in Blue Anchor on the second Wednesday of March in the same year. The new township, created from a part of Gloucester Township, contains 57.4 square miles. The inn was named, naturally, the Blue Anchor Inn and was located on Route 73 in the center of the duel highway in the vicinity of St. Lucy's Church.
Today, Winslow Township is both a rural and an urban community. While the western end of the township has become mostly residential, the eastern end still contains many family farms. The population of our community is nearing 35,000. While everyone would like to see our community considered as a whole, it is really a township of a lot of smaller towns that do not want to lose their identities: Albion, Ancora, Atco, Blue Anchor, Braddock, Cedar Brook, Elm, Florance, Ivy Stone, Penbrim, Rosedale, Sicklerville, Tansboro, West Atco, Waterford Works, and Winslow.
Our municipal building and police department are located at 125 S. Route 73 in the Braddock Section of the township. (The mailing address is "Winslow Township, NJ 08037."). The municipal building telephone number is 609-567-0700.
