Township School District Ends Caregiver Transportation
The Winslow Township School
District has announced that it has ended the practice of
providing bus transportation to caregivers within the
township. Because of a liability possibility,
Superintendent H. Major Poteat said that school busses
will no longer pick-up and drop-off students at
babysitters and daycare centers due to the possibility
of having misplaced children. The district gets
about 400 requests a year for special transportation
needs.

The Winslow Township High School
Class of 2009 received their diplomas at the annual
graduation ceremony held on Friday evening, June 19.
The class valedictorian is Thaiphi Lu.
Local Dems Almost Have
Clean Sweep in Primary
The local Democrats, running under
the county banner, will be running candidates in three
of the township's four wards in November. Their
only defeat came in Ward 1.
This was the second election in a row
that gave a crushing defeat to Mayor Sue Ann Metzner's
team. Metzner, as you recall, was the former
Republican Mayor turned Democrat. Here group was
not supported by the regular Democrat organization this
year.
The unofficial results from the
county website are as follows:
Ward 1: Louis Parzanese
defeated Coronel Vanst by a vote of 285 to 102.
Ward 2: Challenger Barry
Wright defeated incumbent Karl Auwater III by a vote of
375 to 284.
Ward 3: Thaddeus Mackey
defeated Lee DeRamus Sr. by a vote of 330 to 127.
Ward 4: Incumbent John
A. Wilson defeated challenger Kathrine Fisher by a vote
of 272 to 138.
On the Republican ballot, incumbent
Anthony Tomasello (Ward 1) and John M. Guthrie (ward 4)
both ran unopposed. There were no GOP candidates
in Ward 2 or 3.
Winslow Democrats Have
Primary Battle
For the second year in a row, the Winslow Township
Democrats have a primary fight on their hands.
There are two slates of candidates running in the June 2
primary for four seats on the township committee as well
members of the local, county, and state Democrat
committees. Each group is blaming the other for
the township's money problems including raising taxes
and the high water and sewer bills.
In Column 3 are the regular members
of the regular Winslow Township Democrat Party.
Running for township committee are: Ward 1 -
Coronel Vanst; Ward 2 - Barry Wright; Ward 3 - Thaddeus
Mackey; and Ward 4 - John A. Wilson (incumbent).
This group has suggested no increase in local taxes and
a $50 water and sewer rebate this year.
In Column 7 are members of a group
supported by Republican turned Democrat Mayor Sue Ann
Metzner: Ward 1 - Louis Parzanese; Ward 2 - Karl
Auwater III (incumbent); Ward 3 - Lee De Ramus Sr.; and
Ward 4 - Katherine A. Fisher.
REPUBLICANS
Running unopposed in the Republican Primary are:
Ward 1 - Anthony Tomasello (incumbent); and Ward 4 -
John M. Guthrie. No candidates are running
in Wards 2 and 3.
